DSCN0367Where I come from, people are very fond of giving advice, even unsolicited. I guess it is human nature. One feels so superior and it does not cost anything. Your life maybe a mess but you are the best advisor in the world. ‘Help’ is, however, another matter. Earlier, friends and neighbours would rally around in times of trouble. Nowadays people turn a blind eye. Recently, there have been umpteen cases where the accidents have lain on the road and died due to lack of medical help and people had either simply walked off or watched. In Uttrakhand, there were heart rending stories of exploitation of victims or inaction by authorities and also heartwarming tales where people had helped.                                                                                                                                                My grandparents would tell us how their friends and relatives had opened their homes and hearts for our family when they had to leave their home and life in Pakistan in 1947 when India was partitioned.                                                                                 We all have our support systems- our family, friends, neighbours ,colleagues and even the people whom we meet in our daily routine. Sometimes where  our support system fails, help comes from an unexpected source. I try to do all what I can but when I need help, I ask for it because I know I would and do help anyone who needed it. It is true that one should not have expectations so that one is not disappointed but no man is an island.                                                                                                    Over a period of time, I have learnt to identify people who seem to be very helpful but would not lift a finger to help unless there was something in it for them. After the event, they pretend ignorance or an emergency or act as if nothing happened.                                                                                                                      I firmly believe in God and I know that either some one will help or I would get the strength to help myself. Nothing is mightier than fate, so whatever happens, happens.
