AUTUMN IS LATE

October 11, 2013

In this part of the world, there are six main seasons- winter, spring, summer, rain, autumn, early winter and late winter. though the  weather  changes  every few weeks. After  more than two months of heavy rains, we  are really looking forward to some relief.                                   Usually by this time of the year, the humidity and temperature begins to drop. While the days are hot, the evenings are pleasant.  Mosquitoes , other insects and reptiles begin to disappear.  Homes, offices are cleaned, painted and polished in preparation for the festival season ahead. We look forward to sweets and savories served during these festivals. New clothes, accessories, jewellery and household items are purchased or refurbished. Gardens are planted with fresh saplings and grass.                                                                        This year, rain God seems reluctant to withdraw His bounty. The skies are overcast and strong winds blow but the trees are unable to shed their leaves. Repair and cleaning work is delayed. The festival of Dusshera, which falls on 13th October this year may be washed out. On this day effigies of Ravana,  Kumbkarna, Meghnath are burnt with fireworks to celebrate the victory of truth over evil. The huge effigies are built several days in advance and stuffed with fireworks, which due to humidity has been very difficult.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       So Indra Dev ( Hindu God of rain), please save the rains for winter monsoons and let us  and the farmers prepare for the winter ahead. Thank you!DSCN1534DSCN0472359DSCN1644
