JAB WE MET

February 23, 2014

When we were younger, our society was more conservative. Of course there were couples who had affairs and got married or the girl would meet someone with better prospects or the boy would marry the girl of his parents’ choice. For the rest of us, we liked someone and tried to catch his attention. We listened to Hindi film songs on the radio or tape-recorders (pre tv era) ‘mil gaye, mil gaye aaj mere sanam, aaj mere zammen par nahi kadam’ (I have found my love today ,my feet won’t touch the ground).                                                                      Then we would feel young and happy and turn red when we happened to meet. We would communicate only with looks. Even for steady couples there would be no PDA. Then either the infatuation would run its course or something happened and we would listen to sad songs ‘ jab dil hi toot gaya hum ji ke kya karenge’ ( when my heart is broken, what will I live for ?). And then move  on to a new love till we got married. DSCN2005
