LEAVING IN POETRY

March 13, 2014

‘Parting is such sweet sorrow’ said Juliet to Romeo. Leaving, beginning, ending, coming, going- so much literature is available. I am going to quote lines from Hindi film songs in different moods on this theme.

Nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore’s ‘Chal akela, chal akela, chal akela. Tera mela peeche choota rahi, chal akela….’ (o traveler! go on your quest alone, even if no body comes with you…)

The philosophical ‘Sansar ke har sheh ka itna hi fasana hai, ek dhundh se aana hai, ek dhundh me jaana hai’ (simple story of every one in this world is that they appear from fog and disappear into the fog….)

To a dying person ‘O door ke musafir! hum ko bhi saath le le ray, hum reh gaye akele…’ (you are going on a long journey, take me with you, I will be lonely without you..)

To a dear departed ‘Chithi na koi sandesh, jaane kaun se desh tum chale gaye….’ (you have gone to an unknown place without any letter or message….)

Romantic ‘Abhi na jayo chhodh kar ke  abhi dil bhara nahi…’ (don’t leave just yet….)

‘ Aane se uss ke aaye bahar, jaane se uss ke jaye bahar….’ (when she comes, it is spring and  spring leaves with her…)

A lover after a fight laments ‘Main ye soch kar uske dar se utta tha ke woh rok lagee mana lage mujh ko,……………………..ke awaaz de kar.bula lege………………….magar usne roka, na usne manaya,na daman pakda, na paas bhithaya na awaaz he de, na vapis bulaya , main ahista ahista  …….( I left her in the hope that she would  stop me, persuade me …………… stop me ……. but she didn’t stop me…….

A young person on a journey  of self-discovery ‘Main toh chala jhidhar chale rasta, mujhe kya khabar kahan meri manzil……( I am going where life takes me ,I don’t know my destiny…)

A dying solider to his countrymen ‘ kar chale hum fida jaano-taan sathiyon abh tumhare hawale watan sathiyon……..( I am sacrificing my life and now the nation is in your care…..)                                                                                                                                                                                         DSCN0841                                                             DSCN0367
